Chest Pain Assessment

Chest pain has many possible causes โ€” including the heart, lungs, digestion, muscle strain and anxiety. A specialist cardiac assessment finds out whether your heart is involved, and what to do next.

Call 999 if you get sudden pain or discomfort in your chest that does not go away, pain that spreads to your arm, neck, jaw, stomach or back, or chest pain with sweating, feeling sick, light-headedness or shortness of breath. Do not drive yourself to A&E.

Why get chest pain checked by a cardiologist?

The NHS lists several possible causes of chest pain, from heartburn and muscle strain to chest infections and anxiety. Some causes are heart-related, such as angina, which happens when the heart does not get enough blood โ€” usually because of coronary heart disease.

A cardiology assessment gives you a clear answer, so you can either be reassured or start the right treatment early.
